Steps To Speed Up Your Computer

Even though computers would run faster during the initial days of use after installing the operating system, they would gradually tend to slow down. The operating system could even take several minutes to get to the desktop.

In addition, you might have found that files take more time to open in an application. So, what could be the exact cause of this issue? According to Microsoft help forum, this can occur due to a wide range of reasons. One of the causes of this slow down is the large number of junk files in the computer. Another reason could be startup items and background programs. Viruses could also be a culprit for this slowdown. In this post, we will find out how to eliminate these issues and make your computer run faster again.

Disabling startup programs

When you turn on your computer, many programs start to load with it. Disabling these programs will make your computer boot faster. In order to disable startup programs, follow the steps below.
  • Open the Run window from Control Panel and enter msconfig in it.
  • Click OK. This opens the window for System Configuration Utility.
  • Go to the tab Startup and click the button Disable All.
  • Restart the PC.
The above step will improve the boot time of the computer, as there are no more startup programs to load. Next step is to remove the junk files from the computer. Follow the steps below for deleting these unwanted files.
  • Open the Start menu and then select Run.
  • In the Run window, enter temp and press the Enter key.
  • In the new window that opens, choose all files and folders together by using the keys Ctrl and A.
  • Select the DEL button in the keyboard to remove these files.
  • After removing the files from the above folder, close the folder and open the Run window again.
  • Enter %temp% in the window and click OK.
  • Remove all the files from the folder Temporary Files that opens.
After removing the temporary files, it is time to do a virus scan of the computer. If your computer has an antivirus program installed in it, update it first and then initiate a full scan. Remove all the viruses found in the scan and restart the PC. According to Microsoft help forum, only an updated antivirus application can help your computer stay protected from viruses.
